Additional Software Modules

VideoMage Producer requires that your operating system include certain software modules from Microsoft which may not be part of the standard Windows installation. Depending upon the upgrades and peripherals that you've added, these modules may already be present on your system. The VideoMage Producer installation script will advise you which of these modules you need to obtain.

GDI+ is Microsoft's system for graphic manipulation in Microsoft Windows XP. If you are running any version of Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows 2000, you must ensure that GDI+ is installed before you can use VideoMage Producer. You can find information on how to install this package here.

While not required for basic operation, the Windows Media format encoder, version 9 or higher, is required for recording in WMV format (recommended). If not included with your Operating System, this encoder may have been installed with your webcam installation, or as part of a Windows Media Player upgrade. The VideoMage Producer installation process will notify you if this encoder has not been installed on your system.

Processor

VideoMage Producer can be run in non-capture mode with any Pentium class machine running at a minimum of 266 MHz. This allows sessions to be built, but limits video capture choices.

For video capture, processor requirements are primarily dependent upon the video encoding method used, including codecs, frame size, and frame rate (all of which can be set by the user). For best performance, a state of the art processor (2.8 GHz or higher) is recommended.

Disk Space

Installation of VideoMage Producer requires a minimum of 2M of disk space, plus any extra may be required by missing software components identified by the installation process. Disk space required for video captured by the application is dependent on the encoding methods selected by the user.

System Memory

Running the application requires a minimum of 128M of RAM, with potentially higher requirements depending on screen size and the number and size of the graphics used by the active session. Additional memory may be required by certain video encoding methods.

Display Device

VideoMage Producer requires use of a monitor set to display at least 16 bit colour (i.e. 65536 colours).

Video Capture Devices

For video capture sessions, VideoMage Producer supports most standard webcams (typically USB based) and Digital Video cameras (typically connected to your computer by IEEE 1394 ("Firewire") cable). Camera drivers should be able to provide video streams in RGB24 format (most are able).

Sessions can be built without the presence of a video camera.
